The common name of cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, 2n = 14) is “guar” Guar is derived from the Sanskrit word “GAUAAHAR”, is a drought tolerant crop that belongs to the legume family. It is kharif crop and belongs to family fabaceae (earlier name Leguminosae). The crop requires 30 to 350C at the sowing time for proper germination and 32 to 380 C encourages good vegetative growth. It is grown in India for various purposes such as vegetables, green manure and seed production. Guar is also recognized as medicinal plant and possesses quite high photochemical. Guar gum contains ~ 90% galactomannan and has 5-8 times thickening power than that of starch. The demand of guar gum is significantly increasing in many industries like textile, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals. It is commonly used to cure various diseases like ulcer, secretion, hyperglycaemic, cathartic.
