About NABG

Establishment of National Agricultural Bioinformatics Grid (NABG) is one of the most ambitious National projects of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) funded by NAIP. Formally launched on 18th Sept., 2010 by Honble Director General (ICAR) and Secretary (DARE) Dr. S. Ayyappan, the project entails the creation and advancement of databases, algorithms, computational and statistical techniques and theory to solve formal and practical problems arising from the management and analysis of biological data.

Dr. Anil Rai, Principal Scientist, IASRI is Central Project Investigator (CPI) of this project and it is proposed to establish a National Agricultural Bioinformatics Grid (NABG) not only for the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutions but also for the country as a whole, following two-tier architecture. The main centre i.e. Centre of Agricultural Bioinformatics (CABin) will be at IASRI, New Delhi which will have dedicated high speed connectivity to domain centers working in different domains of agriculture such as crops, animals, fisheries and agricultural microbes. The CABin will be responsible for establishing linkages with various institutions of ICAR, national and international organizations working in Bioinformatics and related fields. In the second tier, institutions of various subjects will act as domain centers for taking up research and development activities in their respective areas. These institutions will also be responsible for information collection and generation of knowledge of respective domain.

Following institutions are part of this grid in first phase.

Lead Centre: IASRI, New Delhi

Domain Centres: NBPGR, New Delhi; NBAGR, Karnal; NBFGR, Lucknow; NBAIM, Mau; NBAII, Bangalore.
